The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle. Like, I will probably never be struck by lightning, or win a Nobel Prize, or become the dictator of a small nation in the Pacific Isles…But if you consider all the unlikely things together, at least one of them will probably happen to each of us…My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all subdivisions in all of Florida, I ended up living next door to Margo Roth Spiegelman.
I’m going to be honest with you here, dear readers, this is not the first time I have attempted to read Paper Towns. I have had this book on my shelf for a couple of years now, and have tried multiple times to read it. This time I was determined to do just that…and i’m so glad I did.
Set in the sleepy suburbs of Orlando, Florida, Paper Towns follows Quentin Jacobsen, as he tries to discover who the real Margo Roth Spiegelman, his lifelong neighbour really is.
It is so much more than that, but this is one of those books that has multiple sets of spoilers early on, so I will leave you to discover those for yourselves.
I have read a number of John Green’s other books, and while this isn’t my favourite of his, it has moments of pure brilliance and truly insightful writing. It is witty, amusing, and captivating, and while at times slightly slow to progress, has an ending which more than makes up for the rest.
If like me you have struggled to get into this book, I urge you to keep going, because the ending is beautifully written.

Also loved the ending! I love when authors leave room for interpretation. It’s always going to mean different things to different people. Much like life, never cut and dried.
